Our Code of Ethics
Breed Description: The Vizsla is a distinctively different breed of dog. The Vizsla was bred to be a family as well as a hunting companion, accepting the role of protector and friend. The breed has survived countless wars and centuries of limited and selective breeding and was re-bred from near extinction and combines the finest in beauty, character and hunting ability with a strong desire to please. Respect for this heritage demands that the breed should never be allowed to become less than the dog that still represents the National Dog of Hungary.
Sportsmanship: Members/Volunteers shall always conduct themselves in a professional manner when representing CWVRG, Inc. regardless of the location or circumstances; protect and advance the objectives of Vizsla rescue. Members/Volunteers will not use their membership in CWVRG, Inc. for personal gain, religious effort or for profit of any kind that is not the direct benefit of CWVRG, Inc. Health: to maintain the best possible standard of canine health, cleanliness and veterinary care in an atmosphere conducive to the stable development of foster dogs in your care.
Rescued Vizslas: Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group, Inc. will not buy Vizslas in order to get them into the rescue system. This encourages volume/mass breeders and puppy mills to breed more Vizslas to end up in rescue. Exception: We will, however, reimburse medical expenses in order to get puppies out of the breeding population, on a case by case basis. The Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group, Inc. will not buy puppies from pet stores or auctions. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis and the President of the Corporation will make the final decision.
Shelter Rescues: A Vizsla that ends up in a shelter will be taken care of immediately as follows: Upon notification from a shelter that they have a Vizsla in house, we will make arrangements to pull the dog as humanly soon as possible. A Vizsla will not be left in a shelter unless we determine it is unadaptable.
Vizsla mixes: We will only take Vizsla mixes in on a case by case basis, if it is determined that at least one parent is a Vizsla and the dog is adoptable and we have room to take it in.
Breeders: Members of CWVRG, Inc. acknowledge the importance of responsible breeding and therefore agree not to breed, or cause to be bred, more than two litters of puppies per year. In unusual circumstances, a member-breeder may apply to the Board for an exception. Members of CWVRG, Inc. who do breed, are expected to abide by the VCA Code of Ethics.
Members of CWVRG, Inc. acknowledge that not all animals can be successfully rehabilitated and placed in pet homes. Special care will be taken not to adopt animals who would pose a danger to the community. When euthanasia is necessary, we will provide each other emotional and logistical support.
Members of CWVRG, Inc. will cooperate with each other and with other members of the animal welfare community. When conflicts arise, members will apply to the CWVRG, Inc. Board for assistance in resolving those conflicts.
